The Soul of Bowie
The Soul of Bowie
In the first of a series, Mark Webster reveals the black music roots of a genuine pop icon. To start, he looks to the soul boy's fashion template David Bowie and plays the original music that comes together to make up the spider's (from Mars!) web of his connections - the soul, disco, jazz and funk originals that are connected to Bowie through covers he's done, covers of his music, singers, musicians, mixers, producers, associations, influences and more.

About Mark Webster
Mark Webster is a highly popular TV and radio presenter, programme divisor and script writer.

He is acknowledged as something of an expert in the fields of jazz and soul, both as a journalist and club DJ, but his presenting and broadcasting career also displays a rich range of depth and variety.

His TV presenting career began in earnest on Thames TV’s arts and culture show 01 For London – territory he would revisit in documentary work for the likes of the National Geographic and Discovery Channels. He is also a notoriously pithy and popular protagonist on BBC Breakfast and News 24, as well as many Channel 4 and BBC listing shows.

On radio, Mark has worked as a breakfast show host on KISS FM and XFM, but can now be frequently heard as a pop cultural pundit across the BBC's manifold stations – contributing for Five Live, Radio 2, The Asian Network, Radio London and BBC Wales among others.
